ZIFA vice-president, Omega Sibanda has urged administrators to take up courses and fortify their knowledge to ensure they effectively run clubs.

Sibanda said it was unfortunate most administrators took a dim view of courses by Zifa and have not bothered to upgrade their skills. Speaking during the closing ceremony of a three-day Zifa Level One coaching course yesterday, Sibanda said being equipped with the right information would ensure the smooth running of the game and reduce the number of squabbles within the game.

“Sometimes we get friction between the association and clubs because people come into football administration but do not take time to acquaint themselves with the know-how of the rules of the game. You find some administrators using hearsay to run the game and because they won’t be doing the proper things they end up clashing with the association leading to friction that could otherwise be avoided,” he said.

Sibanda said the administration courses also provided those running the game with the chance to become Fifa approved instructors and become facilitators for Fifa courses not only in Zimbabwe but throughout Africa. The course was attended by over 40 club administrators, coaches and former players.

Among the participants were Bulawayo City vice-chairman Zenzo Moyo, Highlanders juniors manager Smart Moyo, Highlanders senior team manager Vezigama Dlodlo, former Royals chairlady Sibekiwe Ndlovu, former Tsholotsho assistant coach Farai Sibanda, Allan Mpofu, Bulawayo City juniors coach Bruce Tshuma and Talen Vision manager Juma Phiri, businessman Nkululeko Nldovu and Shadrack Kustanzira among others.

The attendees were taken through administration, laws of the game, labour laws, Zifa electoral process and the Zifa constitution by facilitators that included Sello Nare, Fifa regional instructor for administration and management, Kenny Ndebele, labour law consultant, Gladys Mpemba and Sibanda, who took them through the Zifa constitution.

The Zifa vice-president said they would be holding the Level Two administration course before the end of the year and encourage participants to also attend that course to widen their scope.

Southern Region chairman, Musa Mandaza said they want astute administrators that can run the game effectively. He urged former players to take up the courses and not cry about being sidelined.

“Some former players think they are too big to attend these courses but they have to start at the bottom because it is now a different area of the game.

You might have been playing in some top league and be revered by fans but when you want to shift to coaching and administration you need to humble yourself and learn,” said Mandaza.

Women Football vice-chairperson Samukeliso Silengane and secretary, Caroline Ndlovu and Southern Region board members, Tumediso Mokoena and Bryton Malandule attended the closing ceremony.
