AN adopted orphan (15) from Umguza in Matabeleland North allegedly raped his guardian’s granddaughter (5).
The adoptive parent (50), resident in Chief Deli’s area, took the boy in after both his parents died, although they are not related.
The rape allegedly occurred around 8 PM on Monday while the granny was taking a bath.
“I took him in to live with my three orphaned grandchildren. He has never been a problematic child since I took him in two years ago but I don’t know what got into his head on that day,” she said.
“The four of them share one bedroom hut and on this day he raped the girl once and threatened to kill her if she told anyone. She told me what he had done and we reported the matter to police.”
Chief Deli said youths in his area were behaving in an embarrassing manner.
“I know he is a juvenile and probably right now police are contemplating whether to arrest him or not but if things were done my way, I would send him to jail were criminals belong.”
Chief Deli said for the boy to threaten to kill the little girl shows he is a threat to villagers in the community.
“There shouldn’t be any thinking twice on arresting the boy. I’m even shocked to learn that the juvenile was actually an adopted orphan. It means the boy is so out of order and will probably grow into an even bigger criminal in the community.
“He should be sent to jail so that the rest of the boys and other rapists out there learn that society does not condone rape. He has ruined the girl’s future in many ways,” fumed the chief.
Another teen from Umguza is on the run after he allegedly assaulted a 52-year-old granny and raped her while she was unconscious recently.
Obvious Ncube (18) stripped the woman and left her tied to a tree for about seven hours. He pounced on the elderly woman who was on her way to church on Saturday.
He allegedly threatened to stab her to death with a knife if she told anyone about the sex attack. The woman only got help from passersby at around 6PM. — @winnie-masara
