AFM in congregants empowerment drive

IN a bid to bring practical solutions to economic challenges facing its congregants, the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe has come with an initiative to empower women by horning their technical and entrepreneurship skills.

The AFM has partnered a South African-based empowerment group, Creative Cake Design to train its congregants in baking and confectionery.

The first group of 18 young mothers who completed training in baking and decorating cakes, cake costing, marketing and cake icing graduated in Mutare recently.

They were presented with certificates of recognition by the Provincial Head of Women Affairs and Gender Development, Mrs Chido Madiwa Tsinakwadi, who was the guest of honour. AFM Manicaland North Provincial Overseer, Reverend Sydney Matekwe and other pastors attended the function.

The thrust of the skills training was to empower the young mothers financially through sustainable means.

Mrs Tsinakwadi commended Creative Cake Design for its initiative to empower women while encouraging the graduates to fully utilise the knowledge imparted to them.

“This is one such a good move of empowering young mothers. I urge women to take up the challenge and spread the skills to those who are not yet in the field of cake baking and decorating,” said Mrs Tsinakwadi.

Creative Cake Design founder, Mrs Jessica Maraura, said the courses which were on offer do not require any capital to start.

“Our vision is to empower women to be self reliant in cake making and to be successful business owners. We are teaching them skills that will help them eradicate poverty,” said Mrs Maraura.

Mrs Maraura said they were facing problems of machinery shortages and were in the process of registering their company in Zimbabwe.

Miss Nissi Musana was adjudicated the overall best student.
