adminIn an interview on the sidelines of the church’s annual conference in Bulawayo’s Lobengula Extension yesterday, AFMA national overseer Reverend Tony Tshuma said homosexuality was against Biblical teachings.
He said his church was totally against the practice.
“We as a church denounce homosexuality. Let me make this very clear. It has no room in our society,” said Rev Tshuma.
He said President Mugabe had strongly condemned homosexuality and as the church they were fully behind him.
“The President has condemned this unholy act and we are totally behind him,” said Rev Tshuma.
Turning to the conference, Rev Tshuma said it brought together church branches from the Sadc region.
“The whole of Sadc is here. It started on 11 December and will end on 1 January,” he said.
Rev Tshuma said this year’s theme was: “love, obedience and charity” and aimed at teaching people on how to take care of each other as Christians.
“This year’s theme was brought about through prayer and I was told by God to preach about this theme. We want people to love one another and be obedient so that they can help society,” he said.
Rev Tshuma advised the youth to desist from promiscuous behaviour and to get married in a Christian way.
“They should be open with their dating and we as a church can handle it. When the time is right they can come and inform the leadership about their plans of marriage and we will consult the parents of the two,” he said.
The annual conference brought together an estimated 6 000 people with more members of the church still expected.
There was a hive of activity outside the venue as vendors and businesspeople assembled and displayed their wares.
However, a vendor who only identified herself as MaDube said business was low compared to previous years.
Meanwhile, residents from surrounding houses have also taken advantage of the conference and are making a killing through offering accommodation at rates ranging between 250 and 350 rand per head for three weeks.
“I have rented one of my spare bedrooms to two gentlemen from Venda area in South Africa. I am charging them 300 rand each for accommodation,” said a woman who only identified herself as NakaNozi from Pelandaba suburb.
