A total of 28.2 million vaccines of different types have been administered in Africa to date, Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.
According to the Africa CDC, the continent requires 43 ,5 million vaccines for the vaccination programme to be complete.
A total of 64. 9 percent of the vaccines supplied have been administered on the continent.
According to Africa CDC, 43 countries have received their vaccines from the COVAX facility, 14 countries received from AVATI and 31 countries bilaterally.
On the other hand, South Africa commenced its vaccination programme in January this year and has administered 651 628 vaccines.
It has administered the BioNtech and the J and J vaccines.
Cameroon which started its vaccination programme in April this year, has so far administered 57 008 AstraZeneca and Sinopharm vaccines and has covered 1,1 percent of its population, said Africa CDC.
According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC), Zimbabwe as of May 26, a total of 3 978 people received their first vaccine doses bringing total of 643 531 people being vaccinated with the first dose vaccine.
So far 5 072 people have received their second dose bringing the total to 293 509 people.
Africa CDC said Tanzania, Burundi, Burkina Faso, Central Africa Republic, Chad and Eritrea are yet to start their vaccination programmes as they have not yet received vaccines.
