technology, in the continent.
Estelle de Beer from the SAP Data Warehouse Centre of Excellence told CAJ News the response to the technology had exceeded her organisation’s expectations.
“We have 12 SAP HANA customers in Africa, which I believe is good for the continent considering the local markets are largely skeptical at adopting new technology.
Nonetheless the uptake has been positive in the past two years if one considers we only had one customer in 2011. The growth has exceeded expectations.
“The outlook is positive. A lot of customers in the continent have informed us the adoption of HANA is in their roadmaps,” de Beer said.
The in-memory technology consists of four components- SAP HANA DB, Studio, Appliance and Application Cloud. SAP’s revolutionary high-performance in-memory database and computing platform takes advantage of the low cost of main memory (RAM), data processing abilities of multi-core processors and the fast data access of solid state drives relative to traditional hard drives to deliver better performance of analytical and transactional applications.
Meanwhile, the company is hosting its first-ever African Big Data HANA Forum competition for startups.
The winning startups will be awarded HANA test and development licences for a year at no cost.
The development toolkits and ongoing technical support are worth R550 000.
“We are excited to have the first-ever event of this kind in the continent. – CAJ News.
