AFRICA Revenge will only get back together when both founding members are in music fulltime, co-founder Willis Wataffi has said.
The co-founder of the Wanga hit makers said fans should ask his friend Mehluli “Taz” Moyo to return to music as releasing a single was not making music.
“Why are people still asking that question about us getting back together? We will get back together when Mehluli gets back to doing music, lining up shows and so on. Just releasing a single is not doing music. When we both do music, people really can urge us to get back into the studio together,” he said.
Wataffi said it had been eight years since the split and people should move on.
“To be honest with you the chemistry that we had back then is no longer there. We need to move on from the thought that we will get back together because it’s been eight years since,” he said.
Wataffi will on Saturday night perform at the Bulawayo Africa Day concert that features Jeys Marabini, The Outfit Band, Eve Kawadza, Djembe Monks, X-Mile and Thandy Dlana.
He said he would use the show to promote his upcoming album 10 Qaya Root Years, a mixture of different genres due the number of collaborations on it.
“I will have a full band on the day and I will perform with the likes of Jeys Marabini, Djembe Monks to mention but a few. I will perform tracks from the album in which I have collaborated with Jah Prayzah, Betty Makaya, Sebastian Magacha, Pastor G and Pachiera,” said Wataffi.
The album, Wataffi said, chronicles five influences of culture that he had when he grew up.
The show is part of the Bulawayo Culture events to celebrate 120 years of the city’s inception.
As part of the celebrations, today Richard Runyararo Mahomva launches his book Pan Africanism From the Cradle, The past and The future, at a city restaurant
Tomorrow there will be a poetry session at the National Art Gallery’s Green Room.
