EASTERN Region Division One new entrants, Africa Trust have put behind Division Two championship celebrations and will conduct trails next Friday at their St Mathias Tsonzo grounds where old and new players will sweat it out to secure a place on the list of 30 players that the team will register.
The Watsomba-based outfit, which held their end of year get together ceremony last Wednesday, was promoted into the more competitive Eastern Region Division One after winning the 2015 Manicaland Division Two League title.
Accordingly, Africa Trust have made no secret of their intentions to make an instant impact in their Division One debut season hence the need for serious preparations that start with trials meant to identify and incorporate new players.
In an interview, club owner, Lovemore Mandimutsira, confirmed that the team will be starting their preparation for the season with trails set for next Friday.
“The technical department led by head coach Leonard Jombe and assistant John Mandimutsira will be holding trials for both new and old players next Friday with a view of strengthening the team. The idea is for us to avoid being Division One punching bags. We will ensure that the team gets ready for Division One football.
“As Africa Trust we are serious with our preparations ahead of the 2016 Eastern Region Division One season. As we speak, our home ground has been renovated to suit the standards in the new league that we will be playing in.
“Efforts are underway to have the changing rooms, showers, supporters’ toilets and terraces constructed. St Mathias Tsonzo headmaster and club chairman, James Mwonzora and his executive that includes the likes of Norest Chitungo, Clibert Manyawu and the supporters’ leader, Tendai Mandimutsira are working round the clock to ensure that preparations are complete before the season kicks-off,” he said.
In a separate interview, Jombe heartily thanked the club executive for making efforts to motivate the players as well as his technical department.
“We really want to thank the club executive led by chief executive, Lovemore Mandimutsira. We are also happy with their efforts in renovating the pitch.
“The club has already sourced two kits. Mwonzora, the club chairman has managed to instil the spirit of teamwork and unity of purpose.
“We always do our things together and that is fundamental in the growth of our team. Our technical team, players, supporters and executive play their respective roles appropriately. With time I have no doubt that we will grow into a formidable side. St Matthias Tsonzo High provides us with the much-needed junior policy,” he said.
