African Development Bank donates 8-tonne truck, vehicles to Govt

THE African Development Bank Group has donated a brand new eight-tonne truck, two land cruisers and equipment worth hundreds of thousands of United States dollars to Local Government and Public Works Ministry under the Post Cyclones Idai and Kenneth Emergency Recovery and Resilience Programme (PCIREP).

United Nations Office of Projects Services (UNOPS) is managing the funds disbursed by AfDB and the donation is the second batch after almost a similar one was done last year.

Speaking during the handover ceremony to Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo at his offices, AfDB country manager Ms Moono Mupotola said the bank was committed to spur sustainable economic development and social progress in Zimbabwe.

“PCIREP is a three-year project with a grant of $25 million comprising of three components namely enhanced agricultural productivity and resilience, sustainable socio-economic infrastructure and institutional strengthening to contribute towards socio-economic recovery and resilience to climatic shocks through reconstruction of productive and social infrastructure and strengthening of disaster preparedness systems in Zimbabwe,” she said.

Also present were Deputy Minister Marian Chombo and secretary Mr Zvinechimwe Churu.
