African union mourns victims of Lake Kariba boat accident

The African union Commission chairperson, Mr Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has expressed condolences to Zimbabwe following the boat accident on Lake Kariba that killed 94 people.

In a statement, Mr Youssouf conveyed the continental bloc’s sympathies to the Government and people of Zimbabwe, particularly the families of those who died in the tragedy.

“At this difficult moment of grief, my thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and with all those who survived this tragic incident. I wish them strength, comfort and healing as they cope with this profound loss,” he said.

The AU chairperson said the continental organisation stood in solidarity with Zimbabwe and communities affected by the accident.

He also wished survivors strength and a speedy recovery as they come to terms with the tragedy.

“May the souls of those who perished rest in eternal peace,” Mr Youssouf said.
