After platinum, giant-killers target diamonds

YADAH coach Genesis Mangombe says they want to extend their impressive run when they take on Manica Diamonds at Vengere in Rusape on Sunday.

Yadah go into the game buoyed by a 1-0 win over Ngezi Platinum Stars, in their previous outing, which ultimately sealed the fate of coach Benjani Mwaruwari.

The Undertaker was sacked by Ngezi shortly after that loss with the club saying their targets had not been met.

The former Warriors skipper had been in charge of the club for only four months of what was a four-year deal.

He only guided the ambitious miners in only 13 matches.

Benjani managed three wins, drew six and lost four of his games.

Last weekend’s defeat saw the Mhondoro side dropping ninth on the log with 30 points.

Mangombe said they were now shifting their focus on upcoming fixtures after winning some crucial games.

“We now shift focus on our next assignment against Manica Diamonds.

“It’s a crucial game for us and we need maximum points.

“The Ngezi game is now water under the bridge, but it is putting us under pressure because people are saying if we could beat Dynamos and Ngezi, then we can easily beat any other team.

“That alone puts pressure on my boys, so I’m working on their mental strength to rid them of complacency and overconfidence,” said Mangombe.

He added:

“We are also working on our conversion rate because we create a lot of chances that we fail to put away.

“But, I’m happy with the way the boys have been playing since the start of the second half of the season started.”

He said they were now training hard to polish up their finishing and defending.

“If we don’t concede, our chances of grabbing a win are high, and that’s why I’m even rotating my players,” he said.
