AGAPE COLLEGE yesterday held its annual merit awards ceremony, showcasing its commitment to modern educational innovation and the transformation of traditional classrooms through technology.
Located in Bulawayo’s Nketa 7 suburb, the college boasts impressive infrastructure, including classrooms fitted with interactive boards and other digital tools, creating a smart learning environment for its students.

Dedicated to nurturing holistic development, the institution offers a diverse range of programmes designed to equip learners with essential skills for success in both academic and non-academic spheres.
Speaking at the event, Principal John Tobias Nzima said students are not merely vessels to be filled with knowledge, but individuals who must acquire practical skills to prepare for life beyond the classroom. He stressed that a student’s attitude plays a significant role in their performance and urged them to take responsibility for their learning.

“We recognise and appreciate the hard work that you are putting into your studies, and the awards you are going to receive today are meant to encourage you to work even harder,” said Nzima.
He also offered words of encouragement to students who did not receive awards, urging them not to be discouraged but to use the moment as motivation to strive for more.

“To parents, I say the school is as good as yours, as they are the ones who determine the functionality of the institution by paying fees, attending school consultation meetings and submitting stationery at the beginning of the year,” said Nzima.

Agape College stands out for its emphasis on practical learning and soft skills development, ensuring students are not only academically capable but also prepared to meet the demands of the job market.

The merit awards ceremony featured multilingual performances in Italian, French, German and English, reflecting the school’s commitment to global exposure. Nzima also highlighted the importance of integrating local culture into the curriculum, helping students appreciate their heritage while preparing for international opportunities.

The institution’s Director, Lucky Moyo, underscored the role of digital technology in enhancing education.

“The interactive boards which we have adopted are key to sharing of information between teachers and students, and it is our duty as an institution to ensure that we transform our school and equip it for the job market, as we are not profit-driven,” he said.

The school also unveiled new uniforms, a change initiated by students — demonstrating the college’s inclusive approach to decision-making and its commitment to student engagement.
