Agency probes worker’s electrocution

REA public relations and market­ing executive Mr Johannes Nya­mayedenga yesterday said the com­pany was about to handover the proj­ect to the Zim­babwe Electricity Trans­mission and Distribution Company.
“The accident occurred when REA line construction workers were con­necting electricity to Tsinga Primary School to facilitate the handing over of the project to the Zimbabwe Electric­ity Transmission and Distribution Com­pany (ZETDC) for ownership and billing of clients,” said Mr Nya­mayedenga.
“As reported earlier on in the local Press, it is not Mr Xavier Revesai Katomari who was electrocuted but Mr Kativhu. Mr Katomari is the Pro­jects Co-odinator who co-odinates and supervises line construction workers in Murehwa, Mutoko, Mudzi and Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe dis­tricts,” he said.
He said Mr Katomari managed to rescue another line worker, Mr Den­nis Man’ozhe who was working on the same line with the late Mr Kativhu when the unfortunate incident occurred. Mr Man’ozhe sustained burns and is recovering at Chitungwiza Cen­tral Hospital.
Mr Nyamayedenga said REA had lost an “experienced and hardworking man”.
“The Rural Electrification Agency is expressing its heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives, friends and close workmates of Kativhu,” said Mr Nya­mayedenga.
“Our condolences go to Mr Kativhu’s wife, his five months old baby, the entire family, friends and relatives. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Mr Kativhu was buried at the Kativhu village in Mutoko on Friday last week after a post-mortem was con­ducted the previous day.
