Agga Nyabinde salutes music icons

AGGA Nyabinde says the history of Zimbabwean music would be meaningless without mentioning late music icons.

Topping his list of fallen music heroes is his mentor Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi along with Cde Dick Chingaira, Simon Chimbetu and Soul Jah Love, an artist of his generation.

Tonight, he has decided to honour the quartet with a show at The Usual Place nestled at Jameson Hotel.

“August being a special month that we dedicate to fallen and living heroes.

“I will take the opportunity to thank some of the legends I liked.

“As a band, we are going to use the opportunity to celebrate icons like the late Dr Oliver Mtukudzi, Jah Love, Cde Chinx and Simon Chimbetu because they fought through the microphone.

“We can’t pretend as if we don’t know what they did to us as a nation.

“The music touched the hearts of many and we still miss them in action,” he said.

Agga, who was mentored by Tuku, has been trying to keep his family music legacy intact.

His father, Bob Nyabinde, a close friend to the late Tuku, is one of the country’s music legends.

“I was taught some of the tips by my father and I will always be grateful to him.

“I have many other people who helped me and I will always cherish what they did to me to be where I am today.

“On Friday (tonight), I urge fans to come for a musical celebration with me at Jameson Hotel as we honour our heroes,” he said.

Backed by The 2 Nice Band, Agga is one of the children of music legends doing well on the showbiz landscape.

The others are Suluman Chimbetu, Selmor Mtukudzi and Esau and Tatenda Macheso, who are following in their fathers’ footsteps.
