ZIMBABWE international leftback, Jordan Zemura is in line to make his Serie A debut at the weekend when Udinese take on former champions, Juventus in a home fixture on Sunday night.
Zemura, 23, became the first Zimbabwean to join the Serie A and this month featured in his side’s first XI as they beat lower league side, Catanzaro 4-1 in the opening round of the 2023/24 Copa Italia.
He lasted 73 minutes and provided an assist four minutes into the second half, giving him hope that he might play some part in this weekend’s Serie A action.
Zemura joined Udinese, on a four-year deal, from English Premier League side Bournemouth, who froze him out of the first team early this year following a breakdown in contract talks.
Preliminary indications are that he has impressed coach Andrea Sottil with his pre-season performances amid chances he might actually be converted into an unorthodox right back.
“Zemura arrived to play on the left, today (on Saturday) I tried him on the right and, I think he did well. With the foot reversed, it can be very annoying for the opposing defences,” said Sottil recently following a friendly against Cypriot side, Pafos.
