AG’s office to appoint board

Office Board that is expected to be the new employer for prosecutors and law officers under the new law.
The board, under the Attorney General’s Office Act, will be independently responsible for the recruitment and welfare issues for prosecutors and law officers in the country.

The President assented to the AG’s Act mid this year, and the absence of the board has stalled the movement of the prosecutors and law officers from the Public Service Commission to the AG’s Office Board.

There is no operational date for the Act yet.
Already, magistrates, judges and the support staff have since left the employ of the Public Service Commission and the Judicial Service Commission now employs them.
Justice and Legal Affairs Minister Patrick Chinamasa yesterday said the process of identifying suitable persons to be appointed board members, required careful consideration.

“We are still in the process of identifying suitable people to be part of the board.
“The process requires time because we do not have to appoint just anyone.

“There is need for careful research and consideration before nominating the proper candidates.
“After identifying the persons, the names will be sent to the President for approval.

“There is a lot of consultation involved in the process and we can not give a date of completion as of now,” said Minister Chinamasa.
Currently, the PSC is still taking care of the officers under the AG’s Office pending the establishment of the new board.
