Agyemang promises more glamour

DYNAMOS’ Ghanaian forward Frank Agyemang failed to score a single goal in more than 20 games for the Glamour Boys last season.

That, in part, mirrors the frustrating season that DeMbare endured, which almost saw them getting relegated.

Yet Agyemang did everything, everywhere on the pitch, but nothing resulted in him scoring that elusive goal.

Even when he thought he had scored in DeMbare’s reverse fixture against Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab, the referee gave the effort as an own goal by Ngezi Platinum goalkeeper Darlington Murasiranwa.

Fast forward just three games into the new term, the Ghanaian has already scored twice in those matches.

Agyemang is proving to be a lethal force in a Dynamos attack that was their Achilles Heel last year.

He opened the scoring against TelOne in the opening game of the season as DeMbare came from behind  to win 2-1.

The lanky striker also headed home the team’s second goal in their 2-0 victory over Bulawayo Chiefs at Barbourfields on Thursday.

And speaking ahead of Dynamos’ fourth game against Agama at Wadzanayi in Shamva tomorrow, Agyemang promised to score more this season.

“You know as a striker, your job is to score goals. And it gives me great joy to hit the net,” said Agyemang.

“Last year was disappointing for me and the club. I did just everything I could, but the goals never came.

“I would like to thank the club and coaches who decided to re-invest their faith in me. I have to repay them with goals and more goals.”

Agyemang is fully aware of foreign players who crafted a legendary status at Dynamos including his countryman George Owusu and Zambian Sandros Kumwenda, who had a well-developed DeMbare DNA during their stay at the giants.

And that’s exactly what he is now developing with his enduring image running the full length of the Barbourfields pitch from the Soweto end where he scored back to the Mpilo end where Dynamos fans were housed on Wednesday telling a story of someone becoming well ingrained in club culture.

He even risked it all by first removing his shirt and graciously took the yellow, but not before doing a signature Dynamos “Zora Butter” celebration before a corresponding DeMbare faithful.

“I know it’s all about them (the fans). These are the ones I am here to make happy. The club is the biggest in the country and we have to have the biggest hearts as the players as well,” added Agyemang.

“I am simply promising more. The club should regain its status after a disappointing season last year. Well you are saying I have scored two headers in three matches; that’s my strength.

“I am good in the air but I can also score with both feet. Whatever I use to score, I just want to promise my team that I will be on target so many times and help the team.

“We are playing Agama this Sunday away. It’s a tricky match as I see it.

“That’s our second successive away game. Away matches are tricky but then we have won both our away games this season. We are confident that we will get positive results there. But it’s another new match that we need to play well to get a result.”

Agyemang was deployed as a 10 when he was introduced as a second half substitute in the match against Bulawayo Chiefs and he says he is at home with any position he is asked to play by the coach although he is a natural winger who is also at home with a centre forward role.
