AI-powered platform set to revolutionise influencer marketing in Zim

ZIMBABWE’S rapidly expanding digital economy is set for another boost following the launch of BantuBuzz, an artificial intelligence-powered creator marketplace designed to transform how brands identify, analyse and collaborate with content creators and influencers.
The platform, which goes live on July 1, is expected to introduce data-driven decision-making into Zimbabwe’s growing creator economy, moving businesses away from traditional influencer selection methods based largely on follower counts and personal networks.
As more companies embrace digital marketing to reach consumers, industry experts say the need for reliable analytics, audience insights and measurable campaign performance has become increasingly important.
BantuBuzz chief executive Mr Blessing Mokoena said the platform was developed to bridge a long-standing gap between brands seeking effective marketing channels and creators looking for sustainable commercial opportunities.
“Influencer marketing is no longer a soft marketing experiment; it is becoming a serious performance channel for customer acquisition, brand awareness and everything in between,” said Mr Mokoena.
He noted that while the global influencer marketing industry is projected to surpass US$32 billion this year, many businesses in emerging markets continue to rely on superficial metrics when selecting influencers.
“Many brands in our market are still choosing creators using follower counts, screenshots and personal networks.
BantuBuzz is being built to close that gap by giving brands better creator discovery, AI-powered analytics and campaign intelligence, while giving creators a clearer path to paid opportunities,” he said.
The platform leverages data analytics and artificial intelligence to help brands assess creator performance, audience relevance, engagement quality and campaign suitability before making marketing investments.
Industry observers believe such innovations could help strengthen Zimbabwe’s digital ecosystem by providing local businesses with more sophisticated tools to compete in an increasingly technology-driven marketplace.
Beyond connecting brands with influencers, the platform aims to establish what its developers describe as a “data layer” for Zimbabwe’s creator economy, providing deeper insights into audience behaviour and campaign effectiveness.
Mr Mokoena said Zimbabwe possesses significant potential to become a regional hub for digital content creation due to its youthful population and growing internet penetration.
“Zimbabwe has a fast-growing digital audience and a rising generation of creators, but the market still lacks the infrastructure to connect brands and creators in a measurable way,” he said.
“BantuBuzz is not just listing influencers; we are building the data layer for creator discovery, campaign accountability and brand-creator collaboration.”
The development comes as Zimbabwe continues to embrace innovation and digitalisation as key pillars of the country’s drive towards attaining upper-middle-income economy status under Vision 2030.
Technology-driven platforms are increasingly creating new opportunities for entrepreneurship, employment creation and business growth, particularly among young people participating in the digital economy.
Mr Mokoena said the future of influencer marketing would be driven by data rather than popularity metrics alone.
“The future of influencer marketing will not be won by brands that simply chase large follower counts. It will be won by brands that understand audience quality, engagement, trust and performance. BantuBuzz is being built to help brands make those decisions with data, while helping creators turn influence into income,” he said.
The platform forms part of the broader expansion strategy of Bakoena Technologies, a technology company focused on building AI-powered digital products and marketplace infrastructure for African markets.
With digital content creation becoming an increasingly important economic activity across Africa, platforms that bring transparency, accountability and measurable outcomes to the sector are expected to play a critical role in shaping the future of the continent’s creator economy.
