VICTORIA FALLS is teeming with media giants this week as the Broadcasters Convention-Southern Africa 2025 kicked off, bringing together the region’s top broadcasters for a three-day deep dive into innovation, technology, and collaboration.
Held under the banner: “Content, Connectivity, Collaboration – Transforming Africa’s Broadcast Media Landscape in the AI Era”, the summit is tackling the biggest opportunities and challenges facing African broadcasting today.
Hosted by the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) and convened by Broadcast Media Africa in partnership with the Southern African Broadcasting Association (SABA), the event has drawn policymakers, media practitioners, and industry heavyweights from across the region.
ZBC Chief Executive Officer Sugar Chagonda expressed excitement over Zimbabwe’s role as host.
“We are thrilled to host SABA here in collaboration with our Ministry of Information. It’s a grand opportunity for Zimbabwe and a convergence of great minds in broadcasting,” said Chagonda.
He said the summit is a prime chance for knowledge-sharing and forging strategic partnerships.
“We have policy makers, media practitioners, and key players discussing critical issues and opportunities. While approaches may differ, our goals are united,” he said.
Artificial intelligence is at the center of the discussions. “One critical area is AI. We need to see how best to incorporate AI into our business. The answers are here with the delegates,” Chagonda said.
The ZBC boss said the next three days are set to be productive, aiming to carve a collaborative path forward for a dynamic and rapidly evolving broadcasting sector.
