admindemolish only two houses out of the seven Braeside houses initially earmarked to pave way for the dualisation of the road.
The town clerk, Dr Tendai Mahachi, recently said, the five houses would no longer be demolished.
Residents had complained that they were being kept in the dark over developments that would impact on their lives.
Some of the house owners had suggested that they be compensated with built houses in the suburb or in areas of equal status.
Harare and Augur Investments were supposed to compensate owners of the seven houses, which are between Learoyd and Alamein Roads by either giving them money or building them other houses.
“We are saving some of the houses from the destruction. We may end up demolishing only two,” he said.
Dr Mahachi said all the pre-cast walls in Hatfield that had also been a target for demolition would be spared.
During a tour of the road construction recently, Dr Mahachi said this was meant to reduce costs and minimise inconveniences on residents.
At least US$7 million was set aside for the reconstruction of houses, pre-cast walls and the movement of other infrastructure such as electricity, water and sewer pipes and telecommunications.
Construction of a new pre-cast wall at the Morgan-Zintec Teachers’ College has already begun after the old wall was brought down to pave way for the road.
“Work is progressing well. As you can see we have already started moving some of the street lighting poles and the actual tarring of the road will begin soon,” he said.
“We will then divert traffic onto the new road and start working on the old section of the road,” he said.
