When the CJ Global Express Group Unlimited acquired Ajax Hotspurs last year, supporters dared to dream of a brighter future.
Now, despite a league position that may not yet reflect their ambitions, the club’s revival—both on and off the field—is undeniable.
The South African-based logistics giant’s investment has brought stability, modernised infrastructure, and a renewed sense of purpose. While results have been inconsistent, the foundations for long-term success are being laid. The squad is stronger, the academy is thriving, and the connection with fans has been revitalised—proof that progress isn’t always measured by the league table alone.
Club president, Professor Clemence Jaricha, a driving force behind the takeover, remains bullish about the project—even if the standings don’t yet tell the full story.
“Football isn’t just about where you sit on the log today—it’s about where you’re going tomorrow,” Jaricha said.
“Yes, we’d love to be higher up the table, but look at what’s happening behind the scenes: better facilities, smarter recruitment, a clear identity. CJ Global Express Group Unlimited isn’t here for quick fixes; they’re building something lasting. The results will come.”
Founder Spha Dube, whose vision shaped the club’s community ethos, praising the his new partners for balancing ambition with patience.
“Instant success is rare,” Dube noted.
“What matters is that we’re moving forward. The players are giving everything, the fans are back in numbers, and the club is financially secure for the first time in years. That’s progress, even if the league table hasn’t caught up yet.”
Supporters, too, recognise the broader transformation. While frustrations linger over dropped points, there’s a growing belief that the club is on the right path.
“Last season, we were just fighting to survive—now we’re disappointed when we don’t win,” said longtime fan and Mpopoma resident, Charles Moyo.
“That’s a sign of how expectations have changed. The owners have brought professionalism, and you can see the players buying into the project. The wins will come.”
Another fan, Talent Ncube, a life-long fan, added: “It’s not just about results. The club feels alive again— we can look forward to better facilities, more engagement with fans, even the little things like improved merchandise. We’re not where we want to be yet, but you can feel the momentum building.”
With shrewd recruitment, a thriving youth setup, and off-field growth, Ajax Hotspurs are laying the groundwork for sustained success. As one CJ Global Express Group Unlimited executive put it: “Great things take time—but we’re here for the long haul.”
For now, the league table may not tell the full story. But for those watching closely, the seeds of something special have been planted.
And in football, as in business, the smartest investments don’t always pay off overnight.
