GWANDA Municipality will soon introduce paid parking in the Central Business District as it works towards ensuring the maintenance of order.
This comes as the local authority has stepped up the enforcement of traffic bylaws in the mining town to maintain order.
The council’s police have since increased patrols in the CBD, focusing on ensuring proper vehicle parking and preventing illegal pickup points by taxi operators.
In an interview, Gwanda Mayor, Alderman Thulani Moyo confirmed that they will soon be introducing paid parking.
“We have set the ball rolling to ensure that we enforce our traffic bylaws. For starters, our police department has intensified patrols to fine those who are caught on the wrong side of the law. We want to ensure that we bring order to the town. If we want to attract investors, we need to ensure that there is order in our town.
“We are working on introducing paid parking in the town. At the moment we are working on modalities on whether we will run the system ourselves as council or we will engage a partner. The council has been losing out on a lot of revenue that we are supposed to be collecting through our bylaws,” he said.
