adminMIAMI. — Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains hopeful he can take part in the World Cup soccer finals after the results of scans on the England midfielder’s right knee indicated he has not torn ligaments and will only be sidelined for a fortnight.England coach Roy Hodgson does not want to make a snap decision over the fitness of Oxlade-Chamberlain and there is no suggestion he will be sent home following the injury he suffered in the 2-2 draw with Ecuador on Wednesday.
Oxlade-Chamberlain tweeted: “Gutted to have picked up an injury yesterday. I’m staying positive and getting to work with the medical team on recovery . . . Fingers crossed!”
Hodgson was impressed with the Arsenal youngster’s performance prior to a clash with Carlos Gruezo and Oxlade-Chamberlain will be continuously assessed before England head to Brazil tomorrow and given time to make progress in his recovery from the setback.
Oxlade-Chamberlain underwent scans on Thursday morning and the resulting medical bulletin which revealed there was no tear to the medial ligaments but rather a strain, has boosted his chances of still featuring prominently at the tournament. — Daily Express.
