ALEXANDRA Sports Club had a good outing winning most of their matches in the Inter Club Fours bowls tournament at City Bowling Club yesterday. It was a busy day for the men as they had a full day of bowling enjoyed by fans as teams played competitive ends. Alexandra came second last year in the same event but this time they are hoping to go one better and win.
The first match in the morning was Alexandra A versus Alexandra B and the A team won.
Alexandra B then peeled 20-20 against Highlands Sports Club, who are the current champions.
Alexandra’s 16-year-old bowler, Austin Kupara, was the youngest player at the tourney and said he was confident his team will do well after their impressive show in the first two rounds.
“I am happy with the way we bowled yesterday, I was playing for Alexandra B team and in the morning we lost 23-16, In the afternoon we improved. We were down by six points but came back and accumulated points and in the end we peeled 20-20 to Highlands.
“I joined bowling last year and have played in a number of tournaments which I have enjoyed.”.
Avondale A beat Avondale ‘C’ 20-13 while Borrowdale Country Club beat Avondale ‘C’ 22-11 before getting another win, in the second round, when they beat Avondale B 18-12.
City Bowling Club manager Joyce Kachale said: “We are very happy that all went well and the bowlers enjoyed their first round of the competition,. It was good to host the event which is expected to continue this week at Alexandra Sports Club.”
