AFRO Jazz musician Alexio Kawara was on Friday night involved in a car crash that left his right leg injured. John Gwese the musician’s manager said the accident occurred along Sam Nujoma Street.“I arrived in the country on Saturday, only to be told that Alexio was involved in an accident. He was hit by a car when he was about to cross the road,” said Gwese.

“It was a bad situation because the accident happened at another accident scene. He was first involved in minor accident with another car then he went to check if everything and everyone in that car was alright. When he tried to cross back to his car that is when he got hit by another car which was coming from the opposite direction,” he said.

Gwese said Alexio was admitted in a private ward at Parirenyatwa Hospital.
“He was admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital and is recovering. Right now we are waiting for the doctor’s report after the operation. They put a leg iron on his right leg,” he said.

Alexio had to cancel his upcoming shows but he is expected to feature at a show where he is billed to share the stage with Oliver Mtukudzi, Jah Prayzah and Douglas Chimbetu at Harare International Conference Centre on December 31.

“I am not sure if he will still feature at the show because of his current condition. We are hopeful he will get well soon but we have cancelled shows that were supposed to be held soon,” said Gwese.

Promoter of the HICC show said they were still to finalise issues with Alexio but Mtukudzi, Jah Prayzah and Chimbetu had confirmed their participation.

On Saturday, Alexio and his band cancelled a show at Book Café as a result of the accident. This is the second time Alexio has been involved in an accident this year.
