ABUJA. — Algeria has won the bid to host the 3rd edition of the African Youth Games in 2018. The decision was taken during the 44th Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa Executive Committee session held in Algiers on March 20. The announcement by the president of Anoca, Intendant General Lassana Palenfo, read: “Consequent on a scrutiny of bids submitted by countries that applied to host the 3rd AYGs in May 2018, the Anoca Executive Committee decided, by a wide majority, to entrust the organisation of the youth jamboree to Algeria, which presented an impeccable bid.”
The bidding process for the 3rd African Youth Games was given the official kick-off in December 2013, when Anoca published the call for bids to host this major event meant for youths of the 14 to 18 age bracket.
Algeria’s bid received full backing from the highest ranking State officials foremost amongst them president Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who approved that his country should host the event in 2018.
More to the point, the Anoca Executive Committee made its final decision following an inspection tour of several scheduled games venues by a high level Anoca delegation on March 18.
Commenting on this decision, the president of the local NOC, Mustapha Berraf, said: “We can only be honoured by the choice of our country to host the AYGs.” — Anoca.com.
