MASHONALAND West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Marian Chombo, has said the 2025 Economic Census will provide a comprehensive picture of the province’s economic landscape.
Min Chombo said this in her welcoming remarks at the Provincial Sensitisation Meeting held at Chinhoyi University of Technology Hotel yesterday.
The 2025 Economic Census will be held between January next year and the first quarter of 2026.
“As Mashonaland West Province, we are acutely aware of the need for accurate and up-to-date economic data,” said Min Chombo.
“Our expectation, therefore, is that in support of the Devolution Agenda, statistics produced from the 2025 Economic Census, will be adequately disaggregated to enable decision-making at the lower tiers of Government.
“Therefore, as we look forward to the country undertaking an Economic Census, I call upon the Mashonaland West Business community, and all necessary parties, to cooperate with ZIMSTAT staff as they will be collecting data.”
ZIMSTAT Acting Director-General, Fadzayi Ndlovu, said the 2025 Economic Census is the first of its kind to be conducted in the country.
Ndlovu said the 2025 Economic Census will be a comprehensive survey that the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency will undertake to produce comprehensive baseline statistics on the size and structure of the economy.
She said the statistics are key for evidence-based policy information, be it state-owned enterprises or privately owned businesses, whether registered or not registered.
“I also implore each one of you here present to cooperate and render undivided support to the work of the 2025 Economic Census, which is expected to run from January 2025 until the first quarter of 2026,” said Ndlovu.
