All eyes on Badenhoist as Ray Stracker tees off at Chapman

represented the country at last year’s World Amateur Golf Championships.
Badenhoist’s teammate at the Eisenhower Trophy Scott Vincent won the Ray Stracker tourney last year.
Vincent took the lead from first day after carding a 68 and never looked back.

His final round partners, Thembelani Vundhla and Kayman Mandhu, were just there to provide company.
Vincent’s younger brother Kiren, who was part of the junior national team, will also feature in the tourney.

The annual event began yesterday morning with several top amateur golfers taking part and will end today.

Ray Stracker is a Chapman event but draws several top amateurs and some juniors from other clubs.
Badenhoist will face the challenge of players like Clive Nguru in the absence of Ben Follet-Smith and Travis Smith.

Mbongeni Maphosa should also be in contention. He forced a play-off with Follet-Smith in the last Pro-Am, the Golden Pilsener Harare Open, at the same venue.

Meanwhile, Vincent had an impressive season and received several honours in the United States.
The Virginia Tech student broke into the first team at his college and retained a stroke average of 73.29.

Vincent went on to start all the 13 major events for the Hokies as a freshman before leading the team with 19 rounds at par or better.

The Zimbabwean’s best finish was third place at the NCAA South Central Region in Bowling Green, Ky.
He finished 21st at the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate and led the Hokies at the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship at the Riviera Country Club, finishing 45th overall.

Vincent was in the 2012 All-ACC Academic Men’s Golf Team, 2012 ACC Academic Honour Roll First Team 2012 All-State selection.

The Ruwa Country Club will host the first edition of the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Association major event of the year.

The Mashonaland East and West Tournament will be held on January 19 and 20 with several women golfers expected to take part.
