All roads lead to Borrowdale

Mandla Moyo Horse Racing Reporter
BORROWDALE Racecourse is set to be abuzz with activity at the running of the prestigious Zimbabwe Guineas Grade (3) Race, the first Leg of the Triple Crown pencilled in for tomorrow.

The race is on at 3:10PM.

This event is the sixth of the afternoon on the card and will be over 1,600M. It has $9,000 stake money up for grabs by the winner and the other three runners.

The first partnership to go past the finishing line will walk away $5,400 richer while the other placed runners will get $1,800, $ 1,125 and $675 respectively.

A field of 13 classy runners will lock horns to determine the winner of the first leg of the Triple Crown race.

Picalilly from the yard of Alyson Wright leads the cast of runners that will be loaded onto the stall gates tomorrow. He is rated (91) and will be ridden by jockey Raymond Danielson.

This filly put up a decent run during the Fillies Classic race in January over 1,600M though she eventually lost to Print The Pounds. Even though it was against a lighter field the pace was faster and her timing was still good enough to earn her a place there.

She will definitely cause a shocker and force her way into the placed runners list if jockey Raymond Danielson gets his tactics right on the day.

Mica Point is going to be the centre of attraction in this race for various reasons. This Bay Gelding now under the guidance of the new kid on the block Bridget Stidolp former assistant trainer to Lisa Harris shocked the horse racing fraternity when he cruised to victory ahead of top class horses to win the Guineas Trial race in January.

Mica Point displayed tremendous finishing power in the final third to cross the finishing line ahead of race pre- favourites Eversolucky and Supa Challenge.

Once again he comes up against the same field he beat in January. That on its own brings a psychological advantage to the connection.

Supa Challenge is slowly developing a habit of surrendering races in the closing stages. This was the case during the Guineas Trial race. It remains to be seen if this horse can pick up the pieces and return back to winning ways.

Tallie Two from the stable of Alyson Wright is also in with a chance from seven runs this runner has won thrice and placed as many times.

After losing to the eventual winner, Mica Point, in January during the Guineas Trial race Tallie Two and his running mate, Francois Herholdt must be itching for revenge this time around.
