Glamis Stadium tomorrow for the Chibuku Road to Fame national finals.
Besides the freebies of the famous Chibuku beer and lots of giveaways, some of the country’s top musicians, among them Oliver Mtukudzi, Alick Macheso, Allan Chimbetu and Tongai Moyo will bring the curtain down with their scintillating performances at the after-party.
This year’s event will as usual see 10 groups from the country’s provinces battling for the top three prizes.
These groups include Munandi Express (Harare), R J Zvavapachena (Mashonaland Central), Feel Africa (Masvingo), Quad Afro (Mashonaland East), Ancient Tribes (Mashonaland West), Nyampi Stars (Bulawayo), Sunrise Jazz Band (Manicaland), Afro Vision (Midlands), Coal Miners (Matabeleland North) and Moto Supersounds (Matabeleland South).
However, in a new development, Little Swallows from Mash East have been disqualified and Quad Afro, an afro-jazz group, will now represent the province at the finals tomorrow.
The winners of this year’s event will walk away with US$5 000 cash and a recording contract from Gramma Records, the first runners-up will get US$4 000 while the second runners-up will walk away US$3 000 richer.
Chibuku Road to Fame is a talent search show which seeks to give platform to upcoming musical groups to showcase their vocal artistry.
The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe in conjunction with Delta Beverages through their Chibuku brand launched the show in 2001.
The competition has seen the rise to stardom of such groups as Club Shanga and the Romeo Gasa-led Extra Valembe which have gone to record their own albums and have done well for themselves.
Club Shanga from Mashonaland East, last year’s winners of the competition, will also make a guest performance at tomorrow, fresh from their tour of Europe.
Chibuku Road to Fame has grown to be one of the leading talent shows in Zimbabwe and it has upheld its goals to promote and nurture music talent.
