APOSTOLIC Faith Mission church in Zimbabwe will celebrate 100 years of local ministry in Chatsworth from the August 26-30.

The celebrations will be held under the theme “Celebrating 100 years of being established on a solid foundation” which is derived from 1 Corinthians 3 vs. 11 which says, “For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
AFM Secretary General, Reverend Amon Madawo said everything is now in place for the historical celebrations.
“Everything is now in place for the centennial celebrations to be held at Rufaro in Chatsworth. These celebrations are important to the AFM church because they give us time to look back at what God has done for us through the founders, our fathers and the pioneers of our church all over Zimbabwe for the past 100 years in ministering to the community, preaching the gospel and changing lives of local citizenry through the word of God.
“AFM historically is the mother of all Pentecostal churches in Southern Africa as it is the first recognised pentecostal church in the region so it is important for us to revisit our past and praise God for being with us for a hundred years,” Rev Madawo said.
“We will also take these celebrations as an opportunity to honour the good deeds of AFM pioneers, the people who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of our church in different provinces. Some are still alive and some are no more but those who passed on will be honoured posthumously.
He said that everyone is invited for the celebrations.
These include heads of denominations, political leaders, business people and members from AFM’s sister churches across Africa and the international community.
He also added that the history of AFM will be traced at the mega celebrations for the benefit of the young generations.
Rev Madawo said the decision to conduct the celebrations in Zimbabwe was made after considering that the local church is the mother of so many churches across the globe.
“We chose to celebrate here in Zimbabwe because we have churches around the world that were started by AFM Zimbabwe, for example AFM Australia, Mozambique, UK, USA, Ireland and Dubai were started by the Zimbabwean church. However, AFM as a denomination was founded in 1908 in South Africa.”
Rev Madawo also said that the founder of AFM is the late Canadian Apostle John Graham Lake who passed on in 1935.
“We thank God because some churches split or disappear after the death of the founder but this did not happen with AFM. This shows AFM was founded on a solid foundation which is Jesus Christ.”
