THE Bulawayo Motoring Club’s first race will take place on Saturday at the Victoria Falls Circuit. Motorsport enthusiasts are in for a treat as the event is an open affair. BMC vice chairman Zane Shah said this weekend’s competition will be a big contest as the sport was growing in stature. He said they are expecting new faces as more people were joining the fray.
“The race will go ahead this weekend, all is set for the event which will mark the beginning of the bike and motor racing season for BMC,” he said.
Shah said drag races are contested over 402m by vehicles of the same engine capacity. The winner is often the driver with the best time in three events of the day.
“Cars will be grouped into three categories namely the bakkies, turbo or supercharged and other small capacity engines ranging from 1600cc to 3000cc and above.
“This will make racing fair for each participant as they will be racing with cars that have the same engine capacity,” said Shah.
Shah said that in-between qualifying rounds there will be fun races involving karts for kids and bicycles.
“There will be a number of fun races at the course to show the public that we are still sticking to our motto ‘Race Legal’ as a way of encouraging the public to come to our events and watch and participate in legal races which are safe for both the driver and spectator,” he said.
Shah urged people to come in their numbers to witness and participate in the fun-filled weekend activity.
Drivers like Darren Pragji, Jimmy Zevgolis, Terry Allberry, Zane Shah, Ian Gutherless are expected to headline activities.
The event is supported by Colourworld, Absolute Aqua, Phoenix Restorations and Shield Security.
