Bob90 Super Cup final postponed

Harare Bureau
THE Bob@90 Super Cup final which had been billed for Rufaro Stadium this Sunday has been postponed indefinitely. Dynamos and Highlanders were due to meet in the final in what was expected to be a potentially explosive pre-season meeting, but the fans will have to wait a little longer for the clash.

Highlanders booked their way into the final after beating Harare City 2-1 at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday with the Warriors duo of Peter Moyo and Milton Ncube on target for Bosso.

New Harare City boy Misheck Mburayi had given his side the lead before Highlanders rallied from behind to win the elimination match.
Dynamos, by virtue of being the winners last year, had been handed a bye and are now set to play Highlanders in a repeat of  the last edition once the organisers come up with new dates.

Spokesperson for the Bob Super Cup Organising Committee, Charles Mabika, yesterday said a new date for the final will be announced.
“The Bob@90 Super Cup which was set for this Sunday at Rufaro has been postponed to a later date. “New dates will be announced once they have been confirmed.

“We felt that the whole nation will be concentrated on Rudhaka Stadium, so we will advise on the new dates,” said Mabika.
The football competition is held as part of the celebrations to mark President Robert Mugabe’s birthday which falls on February 21.
Marondera will be the centre of this year’s main celebrations.

Last week, a dinner dance for the Bob@90 Super Cup was cancelled although Mabika remains upbeat that the football final will be staged.
However, coming up with new dates for the final, could prove to be a challenge as Dynamos are going to play in the African Champions League on the next available weekend of March 1 and 2 as they host AS Vita of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Dynamos will travel to Kinshasa the following weekend for the reverse fixture, meaning the Bob@90 Super Cup could also be held mid-March, by the time which the Castle Lager Premiership is expected to kick off.

If the Bob Super Cup match had remained on course this weekend, Dynamos would have benefited by using it to prepare for the Champions League first round, first leg encounter.
