FRIDAY night’s Fashionably Karaoke at The Belmont in St Andrew kick-started the countdown to the Fashion Faces of the Caribbean Model Competition scheduled for this Saturday, March 21 at the Courtleigh Auditorium, New Kingston. “This is the 15th anniversary of both the competition and Saint International,” Deiwight Peters, Saint International CEO, told the Jamaica Observer.
Fashionably Karaoke was created to allow the contestants to let their proverbial hair down after the rigorous training and selection regimen they endure to be finalists for the main competition.
The night allows them to showcase their personalities through song while familiarising themselves with invited guests.
With names like Tami Williams and Kai Newman heating up the international runways, competition to be the next Fashion Face of the Caribbean Model winner is high for what could be a life-changing victory. Currently, there are 45 young women and 30 gentlemen vying for the top prize of a modelling contract.
“Saint is known for quality so we keep the numbers tight, so it’s just about the same number of entrants as last year,” said Peters.
Peters is especially proud of this year’s batch, indicating that up to a quarter of the field could easily take home the title if they catch the eyes of the twelve international judges who will make the final decision.
The competition is also joined by the Jamaica Avant Garde Designer of the Year to form the Avant Garde/Fashion Face Weekend.
“This is the 13th year for the designer side of things. It still is the first and longest – running fashion design awards event in Jamaica,” he explained.
This year the contest continues with title sponsor Campari, under the theme Flights of Fashion Fantasy. One of the 15 entrants will walk away with $100 000 at the end of the night. — Jamaica Observer.
