PREMIERSHIP big boys will avoid each other in the Chibuku Super Cup first round when the draw of the tournament is held on Monday in Harare. The biggest knock-out tournament, which carries a ticket into the CAF Confederation Cup, begins in two weeks’ time and the traditional big clubs have been seeded.The top eight teams on the log table, as of Week 15, have been seeded.
Pacesetters FC Platinum, Highlanders, CAPS United and Dynamos will not face each other in the first round as they are in the top eight.
Newboys Ngezi Platinum’s fine run in the league has also earned them a spot as one of the seeded teams as they were in the top eight at the end of the first half of the season. Sunday Chidzambwa’s ZPC Kariba and David Mandigora Triangle are also seeded.
Defending champions Harare City will also begin their defence as one of the seeded teams.
According to a press release from the Premier Soccer League, the Chibuku Super Cup final would be played on November 5 while the quarter-finals have been slated for the weekend of 30 September to October 2. The semi-finals would be on the weekend of October 21 -23.
The Cup is the first knock-out tournament to be played this season as clubs shift focus from the title race and relegation woes to concentrate on the prestigious tourney which also comes with an African safari package.
