All set for Dynamos player awards

The ceremony, which will be held concurrently with the fund-raising dinner for the 2012 preparations, will be bankrolled by their major sponsor BancABC.

Club chairman, Kenny Mubaiwa, yesterday said they are still finalising the logistics but revealed that categories will include Player of the Year, Junior Player of the Year, Most Improved Player of the Year, Top Goal Scorer, Most Disciplined Player and Players’ Player of the Year.

“We have just come from a fruitful season where the team did well to win the medals. As Dynamos we owe it to the players because they are the ones who fought hard on the pitch to achieve this after a not-so-promising start this season, hence we felt that it was only proper if we can reward them by holding the club awards ceremony.

“So the event is on next Wednesday. We have since secured money for the prizes but what is now left is to allocate according to the categories,” said Mubaiwa.
He said the awards ceremony will be held simultaneously with the fund-raising dinner at the Rainbow Towers.

Mubaiwa said they want to raise funds to buy players to beef up their squad for the domestic championship and Champions League campaigns next season.
DeMbare’s Champion League campaign will be sponsored by BancABC.

“We are taking part in the Champions League again next season and we are happy with the helping hand that we got from BancABC.
“But we need to start our preparations early. The coaches have recommended about four players they need and our coffers are not that good to go on the market.

“Remember we also have players whose contracts are expiring at the end of the year and we need to retain them for continuity’s sake.
“So we have come up with an idea to raise more money for the signing-on fees through the dinner.

“We are selling a table of 10 for US$1 000 and we invite everyone who feels the need to do something for the club to attend,” said Mubaiwa.
Dynamos are chasing two players from Zambia – one a midfielder to replace Archford Gutu – and a striker to complement Roderick Mutuma and Cuthbert Malajila.
They have also targeted industrious midfielder Conrad Whitby on their shopping list for the coming season and talks are at an advanced stage.
