FAMILIES in Harare and its surrounding areas are set to enjoy a summer of fun at the maiden Glen Norah Family Entertainment and Exhibition Show.
Organisers hope to make it a monthly event.
Organised by Furusco, in partnership with the City Of Harare, the family-friendly event is set for August 23 at Glen Norah Park.
The festival will showcase innovative business ventures and also offer entertainment to those who will attend.
The organiser is Fungai Mwale, who owns a leading air-conditioning company Optional Air.
He said that business opportunities were available for all ages and interests while fostering a sense of community and promoting residents.
Mwale said their long term goal was to revive to its original status the derelict park, which was once the pride of Glen Norah and neighbouring Highfield.
He implored all stakeholders, who have the capacity, to partner in this initiative.
“I was born and raised in the high density suburb of Glen Norah, I want to revive the park by resuscitating its infrastructure, this is not going to be a one-off thing, it’s going to be a monthly event.
“Our motivation is also to decongest our central business district by focusing on marginalised areas.”
Mwale said that apart from the live concert, there will be a children’s play centre, mud sports, athletics, business, exhibition and full bar and catering.
“We will provide family entertainment that cuts across all ages from jumping castles, beauty and nails, pool darts and braai.
“The events will feature the work of artists of all genres from sungura, zimdancehall, gospel sungura among others.”
The draw card for businesses is the Market Lane, a unique flea market that will occupy a minimum of 300 cubicles that are segmented along various business lines.
“We are working hand-in-hand with the City of Harare, as an action taker and impact maker, I am calling on businesses, philanthropic foundations and corporates to come and showcase what they do.
“The public will enter the venue for free, our target is over 60 000, therefore, bring your business, big or small, in order and reach out to these potential clients.”
