AT least 12 regional handball clubs are expected to take part at this year’s edition of the Zimbabwe Handball Federation’s Presidential Tournament set for Harare next week.
The annual two-day tournament is slated for Houghton Park Primary School in Harare on October 25-26.
Six clubs, three apiece from Zambia and Mozambique, both with two men and one women’s sides, will join at least 40 local clubs at the handball extravaganza.
ZHF president Amon Madzvamuse said plans for the event are at an advanced stage where the first international teams are expected to arrive in Harare on October 24.
“I am happy with the progress we are making, our sponsors have come on board in a huge way and that has really made our lives easier in terms of planning because of their overwhelming support.
“We have not only received monetary help but also kits, food, accommodation, T-shirts, trophies and vehicles to be used during the event.
“For all our visiting teams, we have already secured their accommodation and food because we are keen to prove to them that we are not only an organised association but also to put our country on the world map as our regional counterparts hold us in high regard so we want to guard that jealously.
“In addition to our two regional counterparts, two other countries have also indicated that, funds permitting, they are looking forward to joining us and those are South Africa and Malawi.
“We are also expecting coaches from Swaziland, who will be coming here to see how we conduct our games, as they recently introduced the sport in their country so we are working flat out to ensure that everything is up to standard,” said Madzvamuse.
