All set for Heroes gala in Mt Darwin

to both the living and fallen heroes who fought for Zimbabwe’s Independence that was attained on April 18 in 1980.
What makes it a potentially exciting event is that while the majority of the galas were held in other areas especially Harare, this time around organisers have decided to take the gala to Mashonaland Central

Province, which was one of the battlefields during the war for liberation.
Several artistes and groups, both established and upcoming, will converge on Mt Darwin for the all-night fiesta and help the nation in commemorating the historic event.
Sungura music icons Alick Macheso and Tongai Moyo, who are without doubt two of the powerhouses in the genre, will clash at the same event.

Macheso, who is on top of his game, is expected to give Mt Darwin folks something to smile about when he belts out hits off his latest album like “Tafadzwa” named after his second wife, “Chimoko Changu” and “Zvinoda Kutendwa” among others.

Tongai, on the other hand, is also a surefire performer and also a sizzling album “Toita Basa” to his name.
As has become the norm, the two artistes are expected to team up together on a song or two on stage, just to show the nation their camaraderie and encourage the spirit of unity.
Suluman Chimbetu, son to the late provincial hero and dendera music exponent, Simon, will rekindle his father’s spirit and make him smile in his grave when he plays songs like “Ndarangarira Gamba”,

“Pane Asipo” “Zimbabwe” and “One Way” among others, by his late father.
Most of these songs are spot in line with Heroes Gala and this makes them timeless.

“Mwana Wedangwe”, however, has his own catalogue of songs taken off his latest album “Non-Stop” and these include “Dzamutsana”, “Kwedu” and “Temperature”.
On the gospel music front will be the likes of Pastor Charles Charamba and his wife, Olivia (pictured left), whose combination on stage is nothing short of magic.

Pastor Charamba will use the same platform to dish out songs off his new album “Pashoko Pangoma” and revellers should look forward to the song “Zimbabwe” that talks about all the resources that Zimbabwe is endowed with.

In the song, Charamba reminds people that the freedom they enjoy today came about as a result of the sacrifices made by the heroes.
People should also look forward to Baba Mechanic Manyeruke.
As has become the norm “Cde Chinx”, real name Dickson Chingaira, will make an appearance at the gala and he is famous for his songs that tap right from the psyche of the people’s struggles.

He is one of those living heroes who used music as a weapon for advancing the war.
