ALL is in place for the 12th edition of the Kwekwe Expo exhibition slated for Kwekwe Mining Museum next weekend.
The three-day event is set to run from Thursday 28 September to Saturday 30 September under the theme “Building Sustainable Bridges for Economic Development.”
The annual event meant to bring service providers, companies and the community together, will be officially opened by Haggie Rand Executive Chairman and businessman Dr Njodzi Shepherd Chawira.
Chairperson of Kwekwe Publicity Association, organisers of the event, Mr Eric Musesengwe said preparations were going on well with exhibitors showing interest.
“Exhibitors are turning up to buy space and I am glad that the small to medium enterprises (SMEs) are dominating the exhibitors of course backed by the big companies. The SMEs are the backbone of the economy and I am glad they are coming in numbers,” he said.
Mr Musesengwe said, although the business conference set for Friday will headline the event, other traditional events like the pageant and high school quiz will also be available.
“We are already making preparations for the High School quiz which is a major part of the event and the prize giving will be held during the official launch. After the business conference, Dr Chawira will officiate at the official opening,” he said.
While the first two days will be business days, Saturday will be a family day.
Mr Musesengwe said the pageant has a new component.
“Besides the traditional Mr and Miss Kwekwe Expo, we have introduced the Kwekwe Junior Model Contest targeting the 10–12-year age group. We want the young ones to be part of the show and be able to showcase their talent,” he said.
This is the second edition of the event after the 2022 edition, which was the first after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are glad that there is such a turn-up because the economy was at a standstill and this is a chance for businesses to market themselves. Last year we had just below 50 exhibitors but this year we are expecting more than 50,” said Mr Musesengwe.
