KELVIN Pangiso the winner of the Simon Muzenda half marathon and Soweto Marathon 10km race winner Rutendo Nyahora will headline the brand new Wholesale Centre Liquor Hub fun run and Charity walk this morning.

The race will start and end at the Liquor Hub at No 58 Fife Street between 4th and 5th Avenue.

Bulawayo Athletics Board chairperson Dailes Bingadadi said they were happy that the race which is being bankrolled by Bulawayo businessman Raj Modi would attract more than two hundred.

“We are looking at more than 200 athletes to attend this race. We are happy that a number of schools from Bulawayo have shown interest with Inyanda Secondary, Mpopoma and Ingubo Primary having already registered for the race.

“We have also athletes from far afield as Mutare and Harare who are already here.

A spokesperson for the sponsor Stanford Mazura said they were happy to sponsor the new race on the National Athletics of Zimbabwe calendar saying the proceeds of the race will go to Charity.

“This is the first edition of the race. We appeal to the people of Bulawayo to support and cheer the athletes as this race is for a worthy cause with all the proceeds from this race going to charity.

“This will be an annual event that will be held for the benefit of the less privileged in our society while at the same time it will promote the nurturing of local talent,’’ said Mazura.

The senior men and women winner will walk away with $500 while the first and second runner-up will pocket $300 and $200 respectively. There will also be prizes for junior men, junior women, men and women in wheelchairs.

The proceedings of the day will start at 7.00am.
