All set for Stanbic week

Takudzwa Chitsiga Sports Reporter
ALL is set for the 2017 Stanbic Bank Junior Stragglers Cricket Week for young players at Hartman House and St George’s College from Monday next week.

The event caters for young players ranging from nine to 12 years and incorporates children from all walks of life in which the youngsters plan their school holidays to keep that Cricket Week free.

Some enthusiastic cricketers took it upon themselves to spread their knowledge of cricket by taking a team to the rural areas for a game after they felt that not only adults should be involved in the sport.

The event is organised for all enthusiastic young cricketers between the ages of 9 and 12 and is held once a year in the August school holidays.

The Grade Four and Five cricketers play in the morning and the Grade Six and Seven play in the afternoon.

The players are placed into teams named after cricketing countries like Zimbabwe, South Africa, West Indies, India, England, Australia, and Sri Lanka and each country challenges a different country every day during the week in limited over matches.

All cricketers are rotated and every player has a chance to bat and bowl.

Every year, teams from the development areas are included on a rotational basis to give as many children as possible an opportunity to play during the holidays and have some fine-tuning of their skills through coaching.
