The Unity Accord was signed on 22 December 1987 by the country’s two great statesmen, President Mugabe and the late Vice-President Dr Joshua “Father Zimbabwe” Nkomo which brought peace and tranquility in the country.
The gala which will be held at Gokwe Centre will be broadcast live on national television.
Retired Major Anyway Mutambudzi, the national coordinator of national galas, yesterday said all was in place for the holding of the gala and urged the people of Gokwe to come in their numbers to watch some of the country’s top musicians in celebrating Unity Day.
“All is now in place for the holding of the gala as we have already identified a suitable venue that is the open space to the west of Gokwe Centre where the stage is already being mounted. The list of musicians to perform has already been finalised and all the other logistics are already in place,
“By 6 pm tomorrow Gokwe will roar into life and I urge all the people in and around Gokwe to come in their numbers and celebrate in song and dance the unity which is prevailing in the country,” he said.
Rtd Maj Mutambudzi said holding the gala in Gokwe was part of the Ministry of Media, Information and Publicity’s efforts to spread the galas across the length and breadth of the country.
“Gokwe is part of Zimbabwe and we want to make sure that a gala is held even in the remotest parts of the country just like what happened in Chipinge and Mt Darwin so that we bring our country together in song and dance,” he said.
The coming of the gala to Gokwe will see the local business community recording brisk business as thousands of people are expected to throng the centre.
Artistes expected to light up Gokwe include Alick Macheso who has just released his ninth album Kwatabva Mitunhu (Kure kwekure), comedian-cum- musician Kapfupi, Sandra Ndebele the Queen of Dance, Gochi Gochi hitmaker Jah Prayzah and the ever-green Mbare Chimurenga Choir.
Tryson Chimbetu and cousin Sulumani will try to outdo each other for the Dendera crown while self-proclaimed Prince of sungura First Farai will want to prove a point to his critics.
