THE organisers of the Visual Arts Indaba which have revealed that all is set for Bulawayo to host the must anticipated artists gathering which runs under the theme “The Role of Art Institutions in Shaping Bulawayo’s Contemporary Art.”
The event created by Centre for Contemporary Art Bulawayo (CCAB) will be held on 27 September at the Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe from 9 am to 4.30 pm. It is funded by Culture Fund Zimbabwe and the European Union Delegation to Zimbabwe (EUINZIM).
The event will feature key speakers like Valerie Kabov the co-founder and Director of Education and International Projects at First Floor Gallery Harare and Dr Verity Muzenda a, Senior Lecturer and Executive Dean of the School of Art and Design at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT).
Cliford Zulu – an Independent Curator and Convener, who is also the director for CCAB said that the event will bring together 50 notable artists, curators, and art professionals across Bulawayo.
He also stated that the event is meant showcase the visual arts scene in Bulawayo and give artists the platform to show their work and build new connections.
“The one-day symposium will act as a forum for dialogue and collaboration, between the practitioners and the institutions focusing on the development, education, management, and promotion of the visual arts. Special attention will be given to contemporary artists and the integration of modern artistic practices in Bulawayo.
“The event aims to promote the growth and visibility of contemporary art in Bulawayo, by developing new ideas and new work, networking, and building audiences to stimulate the visual arts scene. CCAB will interrogate the role of institutions and influence policy change that creates growth opportunities, “said Zulu.
He went on to say that the event will address several themes central to the current and future of the visual arts sector in Bulawayo such as contemporary art trends, funding and art policies, art education and cultural identity, curatorial practices, art marketing and sales and lastly Digital Art and Technology.
