A POLICE officer in Bulawayo sprinted after and arrested a Makokoba man (28) who was caught red handed raping a woman (46) in a sanitary lane at dawn.
Learnmore Dube allegedly attacked the woman on September 5 at around 5am, after she turned down his request for sex.
The woman was walking along 10th Avenue in Bulawayo when Dube approached her and requested to be intimate with her.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu yesterday confirmed Dube’s arrest.
The woman, from Nkulumane 5, was walking along 10th Avenue between JMN Nkomo and J Moyo when Dube approached her.
“The accused person grabbed her and dragged her into a sanitary lane and asked her to have sexual intercourse with him. She refused. He went on to pin her down and raped her,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
The woman screamed for help, alerting passers-by who rushed to her rescue.
The sex pest fled from the scene as people responded to the woman’s cries for help.
However, a police officer who was in the vicinity pursued the suspect and apprehended him.
Asst Insp Ndlovu commended the police officer for the swift response which resulted in the suspect’s arrest.
“The police officer responsible for the arrest is commended for the swift response, alertness and dedication demonstrated in apprehending the suspect,” she said.
Dube was arrested and is assisting police with investigations into the matter.
