DELEGATES to the 14th Zanu-PF’s Annual National People’s Conference started arriving in Chinhoyi yesterday while final preparations at Chinhoyi University of Technology, the main venue for the conference were being made.
The conference began with a Politburo meeting held in Harare yesterday.
When our correspondent visited the venue yesterday, service providers were putting final touches to the tents while checks to the public address system were also being done.
The tent to be used for the main proceedings was also set with the chairs and the podium in place ahead of the revolutionary party’s Central Committee meeting to be held today.
The sound system, lighting, power, communication and water supply tanks were also undergoing final checks.
Newly-elected Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial chairperson Cde Temba Mliswa said all was set for the conference.
“We are ready and all roads are leading to Mashonaland West. It is going to be a successful conference that is coming on the back of our resounding victory in the harmonised elections. It is also coming on the back of the recently held provincial elections and as a new executive, we have hit the ground running.
“We have also been fortunate in that we have come in when most of the things (preparations) have been done and we have asked the old executive members and the sub-committees they had to continue with their work and we have asked the new executive members to join them and everything has gone smoothly,” Cde Mliswa said.
Meanwhile, Zanu-PF deputy secretary for finance, Cde Charles Tavengwa yesterday said the party had mobilised sufficient funds for the conference. “We are ready to roll and I cannot give you a figure because we are still waiting for reports from all provinces,” Cde Tavengwa said.
He said at least 25 exhibitors had confirmed attendance for the business expo to be held alongside the conference.
“They will be showcasing their products from agricultural implements, industrial and other machinery,” he said.
The conference is running under the theme: “Zim Asset-Growing the economy for empowerment and employment”.
