A local clothing brand is proving that fashion can be more than just fabric and design; it can be a conversation starter and a lifeline. Founded in early 2023 by Simbongeni Ncube, All Smiles Global has established itself at the crossroads of creativity, personal expression and mental health advocacy.
What began as a simple clothing idea has transformed into a community-driven movement encouraging young people to speak openly about emotional well-being.
At the centre of the brand’s identity is its sunflower logo, a symbol Ncube says represents resilience and the ability to face light even after seasons of darkness.

“We realised early that people don’t just buy clothes, they buy meaning. Our goal is to make people feel seen, especially those who struggle to express what they’re going through.”
All Smiles has gained traction through campaigns that tackle real-life mental health issues, featuring everyday people rather than models to emphasise authenticity.
One of its standout campaigns, Check On Your Strong Friends, uses simple apparel messaging to prompt conversations about hidden emotional struggles.
“It’s amazing how a message on a T-shirt can start a serious conversation. Sometimes the strongest-looking people are the ones quietly breaking. Through our merchandise, we want to remind others to show up for each other,” Ncube said.
The brand has also launched The All Smiles Podcast, to create a dedicated space for open discussions around mental health, particularly among youth and men. These groups often struggle to voice emotional vulnerability.
“If we’re serious about mental health, we have to talk about it beyond captions. The podcast gives people a platform to share real experiences and feel heard.”
The brand’s message has struck a chord not only in Bulawayo but also among Zimbabweans in the diaspora, many of whom find comfort and identity in its message of encouragement, unity and community support. Despite logistical challenges in shipping internationally, online engagement has continued to grow.
All Smiles works closely with everyday supporters and local creatives instead of relying on celebrities, a strategy Ncube says helps keep the brand’s message authentic and grounded.
“For us, it’s always the people first. We want All Smiles to be remembered as a community, a space where people uplift each other, speak openly, build and grow.”
Looking ahead, the brand hopes to expand into Harare and neighbouring countries while maintaining its core identity of purpose-driven creativity.
“Fashion is something people wear every day. So, if we can use it to spread understanding, compassion, and mental health awareness, then that’s work worth doing.”
