As they normally say, there is nothing that is as good as a beverage that is shared with your beloved ones. Especially if the people are your bosom cronies, your love-bird or your relatives. The atmosphere will be characterised by so much cheer, friendship and warmth that makes the muse of winter start and steer clear of you.Such is the warm atmosphere that has started defining most coffee shops this winter.
People are moving with the times and they are beginning to embrace the idea of grabbing one’s self a cup of coffee to either carry to the office or enjoy at the nearest coffee shop as they brainstorm the next biggest project.
Everywhere you go in any major city of the world, if you catch the aroma of coffee emanating from any facility, left, right or centre of you, then you know it is a coffee shop screaming for your attention.
And in contrast to some watering holes which serve beverages of the other form like alcoholic ales, (beers, brandies and whiskies,) coffee shops often attract those who are inclined on the healthy side of the consumption of beverages.
This is what prompted managing director Zubair Kassam and his wife Waseefa of Waseefas Coffee Café, a coffee shop based at Divaris Shopping Mall in Belvedere, Harare, to open the venture.
“We have been receiving requests from people to start a coffee shop at this shopping centre and judging from the popularity that facilities have been gaining in the past, we thought of giving it a try. The result has been overwhelming and people now make it a must to make a stop here on their way to their workplaces just to grab either a mug of coffee or cappuccino,” he said.
He said their main goal was to be a one stop bakery and confectionery shop.
“Our pricing range from $1 to $10. All menus are prepared by our house chef. This is of course accompanied by some other healthy eats which go along with a good cup of hot coffee.
“It has been proven that coffee is healthy and good for a healthy start of the day, while it can activate you brain cells if you take it at whatever time of the day,” he said.
Kassam said Waseefas Cafe is named after Zimbabwean pastry guru Waseefa Kassam.
“Being trained in South Africa’s top pastry school Waseefa has brought her vast knowledge in chocolate and patisserie industry back home. The Waseefas brand was established in 2012. She managed to rub shoulders with some of the elite pastry personnel who include Buddy from Cake boss, Adam Liaw and Alvin Quah,” he said.
However, scientists have proven that coffee contains some antioxidants that are good for one’s health, while some even went further to state that coffee is good to the brain proteins that help in alleviating stress.
“So if you are one of the people who are experiencing such kind of conditions, we advise you to try one of our coffees and you will never be the same old person again,” said Kassam.
He said that he was now compiling books and any other literature on the virtues of coffee.
“For instance, I heard that drinking coffee may help people with Parkinson disease to control their movement, while it also said to be good for your liver Cirrhosis.
One thing that I have experienced personally is that makes you feel good, so I advise you to enjoy your cup of coffee everyday,” he said.
Kassam said that they have specials every Wednesday and Friday and children can eat for free on Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays.
