Allan Wilson step up athletics preparations

Harare Region and are buoyant that they will be the school to beat when competition starts in two weeks time.
The school’s sports director, Livingstone Maurukira, said he was happy with the way preparations have gone so far.

“We have since started our preparations and the houses are now in order. The participants are enjoying every moment and we are hopeful that this year we will excel.
“We had to do our workouts on the opening day and this was pushed by the tight schedule we have on the schools calendar.
“We will start with the cross country zonal competitions and the field and track events will follow.

“We have some promising athletes and we believe long distance runner Johannes Maminingu will go very far in his career.
“The athlete did us proud late year although he only reached the provincial stages of the competitions and if he gets good training he will do well.
“He is one to look forward to among several others who have shown potential,” said Mamukira.

He said morale was high among the athletes at his school.
“We are likely to have a lot of fun this season and I think everyone is raring to go,” he said.
Matabeleland North province are this year’s national finals’ host and competition will be held at Plumtree High School on April 4 and 5.

Harare will have its provincial competitions on March at Prince Edward High School for the track and field events while the cross-country provincials will be held at Dzivarasekwa 2 High on February 3.
Allan Wilson will take part in the tennis schools league against Mufakose this weekend while their basketball team will host Ellis Robins.
Harare Province zonal teams

Zone 1: Glen View 1-3, Glen Norah 1-2, Kwayedza and Mukai.
Zone 2: Lord Malvern, Epworth, George Stark, Domboramwari, Mbare, Harare High, Morgan, Hatfield, Muguta and Cranborne.
Zone 3: Kambuzuma 1-2, Mufakose 1-4, Mufakose Mhuriimwe, and Budiriro.
Zone 4: Dzivarasekwa 1-2, Kuwadzana 1-2, queen Elizabeth, Girls High, Allan Wilson, Warren Park, Tynward, St Mary’s DZ, Westridge, Christ Ministries, and Conway.
Zone 5: Seke 1-6, Nyatsime College, Mapanda High.
Zone 6: Zengeza 1-4, St Mary’s and Seke Mhuriimwe.
Zone 7: Marlborough, Mt Pleasant, Ellis Robbins, Gateway, Mabelreign, St Georges, Vainona, Hatcliff, St Johns Emerald Hill and ZRP.
Zone 8: Mabvuku, Tafara 1-2, Churchill and Oriel.
