Alliance Francaise calls for entries for photography competition

Entrants are invited to submit two photographs at the organisation’s offices in the city and the closing date is Saturday.

A panel of judges made up of arts professionals drawn from the city will do the selection of the winners.

In a statement, Alliance Francaise said the winner and his or her three runners-up will be afforded the opportunity to exhibit their winning works worldwide. The winner will also compete with other winners from around the globe.

“The three runners-up will have their photos printed in A4 size and the winner will have his photos printed and framed. The entries of the four successful photographers will be exhibited at a place and time yet to be confirmed while Alliance Francaise will also send the photos of the winner to Foundation Alliance in Paris in January 2013,” the statement reads.

A panel in Paris, France, will then choose the overall international winner who will then be rewarded with a one-week trip to Paris while his works will also be exhibited in Parisian museums.

Alliance Francaise said the purpose of the competition was to allow photographers to highlight the daily working conditions that ordinary people have to endure.

“The aim is to show the extraordinary diversity of work undertaken by men and women throughout the world, whether it is the beauty or the toughness of their daily occupations.

“More traditional occupations, such as farming, can be featured, as well as those that have been recently developed,” the statement read.

The competition is open to everyone above the age of 18 years and works should be submitted at Alliance Francaise offices located at 61 Heyman Road, Suburbs in Bulawayo. Photographers can hand in their material as CDs or DVDs but submissions via mail will not be accepted.
